Welcome to 41 Media: The Reality of "Vibe Coding" and Building Better Websites
Published:
Vibe coding promises that anyone can build a website or app using plain language — but is it really that simple? From hidden compliance requirements to the importance of knowing your craft, discover what AI tools can and can't do for your business, and why investing in expertise still matters.
The latest trend taking the tech world by storm is "vibe coding" — the ability to use natural human language to describe an app or website you want to build, allowing an AI agent to take those instructions and generate the final product. On the surface, this sounds incredibly simple. But what happens when you don't know the industry terminology? For instance, if you aren't aware that the large introductory image on a homepage is called a "hero banner", how do you explain that to a computer? This is where the cracks in AI start to show. While these tools are now available to everyone, relying on generic prompts inevitably leads to generic results — or what many are starting to call "AI slop". (Have you ever noticed that when you ask an AI to create an image, it almost always leans towards a blue and purple colour scheme? The reasons behind that could fill a fresh blog post of their own, but I digress!) Beyond the Code: The Hidden Rules of Web Development The truth is, while anyone can theoretically vibe code, there are still fundamental rules of web development that must be followed. A successful website requires an SSL certificate to ensure it runs securely over HTTPS. It needs a comprehensive cookie policy. Most importantly, it must be fully UK GDPR compliant. If visitors are sharing personal data on your site, it is your legal and ethical responsibility to do your utmost to keep that information secure. AI alone won't manage these critical compliance and security measures for you. A 24-Hour Coding Marathon Having explained why vibe coding isn't a magic bullet for everyone, let me share a glimpse into the last 24 hours of my life. At 41 Media, I utilise a variety of platforms to ensure I have the best possible tools for creating exceptional work for my clients. These tools must deliver professional results in a timely fashion, sharing the responsibility of upholding the hard-earned reputation of both myself and 41 Media. One of these tools is an advanced agentic platform that facilitates vibe coding. Typically, its pricing is based on compute usage — meaning large, complex tasks require the advanced model and cost more money. However, for the past 24 hours, the platform was celebrating its birthday by offering free credits. Anticipating the rush of users taking advantage of this freebie — and the inevitable server delays that would follow — I prepared a comprehensive list of websites, apps, and tools I wanted to build. My goal was to leverage this opportunity to streamline my workflow and potentially cancel a few existing subscriptions. I am thrilled to say the marathon was a success. Within that 24-hour window, I managed to build a fully functional invoicing tool. More importantly, I completely redesigned the 41 Media website — the very site you are reading this blog from right now! I also used this agentic tool to create a series of videos explaining what a "smart website" is and why it is a crucial consideration for any modern web build. I won't go into too much detail here, as I don't want to spoil the upcoming Facebook posts, so keep an eye out for those in the near future. Investing in the Future of Small Businesses Aside from a few hours spent with my son this morning, I was coding for the majority of the 24 hours. I managed about 20 minutes of sleep, and the fizzy drinks definitely helped keep me going, but it was entirely worth it. It wasn't just about capitalising on a freebie; it was about the fact that building is learning. I invested this time to ensure I can continue offering the absolute best services to both existing and new clients. By mastering these new skills and technologies, I can provide my clients with cutting-edge solutions without them even having to worry about the technical complexities. My target audience has always been small businesses. I intimately understand the financial struggles that come with running a small enterprise, which is why I always aim to keep my prices low and affordable. I am m
